A Teachable Moment
The teacher turned preacher and the harlot turned teacher
Stood beneath the rugged wood
Pouring out a little good —
Protection for the bullied son;
Wisdom and peace for the reckless, feckless one;
Mercy and grace for the one who hides her wrists and face.
And standing somewhere near, the Good Teacher wiped a tear
Kicked out from every place and ignored within life’s race.
Love like words poured from their broken alabaster souls
And mingled with His bloodied scars.
Then turning toward angels prostrate on their knees,
He made the life-giving decrees.
Angels fled and sped away,
His Word and Will to obey.
Then He walked up to the rugged wood,
Wishing they could see into this space.
As He wiped the tears from each face,
He covered them with His Blood and grace.
