April’s Awareness Focus: Bringing It from “the Archives”
This isn’t an April Fool’s joke. April is a strong month for awareness regarding issues that I like to read and write about. Well, I don’t like to — I know it is necessary that we’re all informed and having intelligent conversation.
First, April is National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness month. The saying goes, “It takes a village.” Latest trends suggest that all communities can play an active role in preventing abuse and neglect of children as well as promoting the well-being of all community members, including children. You can visit the official site from the Children’s Bureau at the US Department of Health and Human Services.
April is also Sexual Assault Awareness month. For this year, their theme is Engaging New Voice. You can visit the official site from the National Sexual Violence Awareness Center.
April also raises awareness of several cancers, autism, stress, and counseling.
So, for the next month, I’m going to pull in some poems and op-ed pieces from my other blog regarding abuse, dysfunction, and related issues. The last piece will publish on May 5, for reasons that get disclosed in the piece. Meanwhile, I’ll be working on building my body of newer pieces, getting some of my existing pieces out to other blogs for cross-pollination, and deciding how many more “strings” of episodes I should have for my warrior clan matriarch. If my hubby has his way, I’ll rest and get my new job well started too.
