Hold On and Let Go

It’s a mom moment —
A heart in my throat
Beating wildly out of my chest
Moment in time.
Letting go.
Holding on.
What to do?
The mischief fairy
I wasn’t sure I wanted
And knew that I knew that I knew
I couldn’t handle
Floated to a piano and opened her mouth.
Dollar signs flit around.
She’s so raw, untrained, young,
But then Peter and John were just fishermen
Without any courses in canon law.
Should I stay?
Should I go?
Waiting is the hardest part,
And yet they say if I wait strength comes.
I want her to soar,
But I don’t want her to go.
Grow, fly, shine.
Chain my hands
Open to let go and receive
As she takes flight.
