Responding to Demolition’s Cry

“Tear down this wall!”

Stunned in motionless paralysis
She sat
Unable to blink, unable to speak, unable to move

Security drove her to the brink of desperate solitude

But openness–
No boundaries
No shelters, hedges, shields–
Fans the flames of fear
Rising, binding, stalling

Every fiber of her being fights the loss of privacy and protection
Constant scrutiny scares the scars of bygone wounds
To searing, aching, throbbing, scorching soul skirmishing

The stepping stone into the unknown
Lies hidden in the dust of bygone blunders

She stops and sighs
Stands feet firm on an unknown foundation
And takes a first tentative step…
