A gossamer marionette
Suspended
Above a fiery abyss
Dancing, flitting, skittering
Singed wings
Sulfur infused heart
A herky-jerk kiss,
A back-slap hug,
Fighting darkness
Flaming fake light
Never at peace
Moving staccato
To flicking flames, snapping embers
Cracking the soul
Off serpentine tendrils
Leap of faith
Into grace
Just one step away
Choosing eternity

… all your righteousness, would have no more influence to uphold you and keep you out of hell, than a spider’s web would have to stop a fallen rock. — Jonathan Edwards

The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider… abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked: his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire. — Jonathan Edwards
