  1. Colors
All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites” — Marc Chagall
Using color wheel, using analogous color schemes and adding shadows to titles or borders in “neighbor color” in the background usually blend well!
Reminder: always using <5 colors in 1 design, looking clean and not too overwhelming is so important!

2. Legible Fonts (Typography)
“The World is full of beautiful fonts, choosing the right one for your next project can be a daunting task.” — Gary Hustwit
How to choose a suitable fonts? First you have to know the difference between font and typeface! A font is a grouping of typefaces that have similar characteristics; a typeface is referring to an individual family member of that font.

Gotham is a font, while it has lots of tyoeface variations.

There 4 main groups in the fonts world:

  • Sans-serif — Probably pretty obvious. It’s a font without the little “feet”. It’s considered more modern, informal and playful. Sans-serif is best suited for digital.
  • Serif — This group features little “feet” attached at the ends of letters. Serif fonts are often considered more formal and traditional. They’re best suited for print as it can be easier to read.
  • Script — Scripted font resembles handwriting so it’s often used in formal invitations. It can be a little too much for body copy and should be used in smaller doses.
  • Decorative — These are informal fonts that are often viewed as unique. They’re attention grabbing and best suited for headlines.

Choose a suitable font by brainstorming the qualities and characteristics of the design. You can also ask yourself: Does this font support the qualities of my brand or complement the purpose of my design? Remember your choosing font needs to match well with the context and audience.
