We planted a Baobab tree — the Klaytn public testnet is here.
We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Klaytn public testnet, Baobab. After completing the trial run of the private testnet ‘Aspen,’ which was exclusively used by our initial service partners for the past five months since last October, we have officially released the public testnet.
Baobab features new functions and developer tools that enhance security and usability based on live feedback from our partners. First, the account system has been improved to support users to mitigate the rigorous demands of taking care of their own accounts, which traditionally existed as randomly generated character strings. We added account management functions to offer better flexibility in empowering users to choose their own account names to make them easy to remember.
In addition, we accomplished over 3,000 TPS throughput and 1-second block latency. In doing so, we have added ‘Transaction Types’ and ‘Service Chain’ features in order to offer the highest performance and flexible scalability. Transaction Types improve the traditional single transaction processing by defining additional transaction types with new capabilities and optimizations, which ultimately contribute to an efficient parallelization. Meanwhile, the service chains function as scalability solutions for BApps (Blockchain Applications) with large traffic by adding and operating auxiliary blockchain networks.
Furthermore, we also provide useful developer tools to make the developer experience intuitive and productive. Newly added tools include ‘EP (Enterprise Proxy)’ that allows developers to easily use Klaytn with their mobile- or web-based development method, and ‘Klaytn IDE’ (Integrated Development Environment) that supports users to build, test, and deploy codes in the browser and locally. Such features are expected to enhance the existing services or create new services by efficiently utilizing blockchain technology.
Our public testnet Baobab, open to all service providers and developers, truly is a reflection of our efforts to drive mainstream adoption of blockchain. Baobab is designed in a way that allows global service providers to test and verify Klaytn as a stable and reliable platform with which they can develop their blockchain services. We plan to continue collecting feedback from our partners and developers while operating the public testnet so that we can prioritize our efforts towards developing the Klaytn mainnet, set to launch in 2Q. The source code will also be released just before the official mainnet launch.
We Klaytn seek to bring user-friendly blockchain experience and intuitive development environment for millions of users in order to enable businesses and entrepreneurs to capture the value of blockchain technology. We will realize mass adoption of BApps (Blockchain Applications) en masse and ensure that the benefits of decentralized trust are shared by all members of our community. In doing so, we have made initial service partnerships with 26 blockchain projects, developed by some of the most powerful service providers around the globe. And, of course, we also plan to set sail again for our meetups. As always, our Medium page will be the very first one to announce our biggest stories, so make sure to stay tuned.
Klaytn is a service-centric blockchain platform providing an intuitive development environment and friendly end-user experience. It is built upon solid reliability and significant stability with substantial service development for mass adoption. The platform allows real world applications of large scale to be produced right away so that our end-users can make full use of services without much expertise in blockchain or cryptocurrency. Klaytn seeks to convey the value and potential of blockchain technology to people.
