The Cryptic Message
A Colorado-Themed Mystery
Please help. I’m so lost right now.
The email came through at 9:19 p.m. Mary was prepping for bed, wiping the mascara from her eyelashes with a thin towelette, when her phone’s screen lit up.
Probably just spam. She got plenty of it due to the public nature of her email address. Her true crime blog and podcast attracted its share of pranksters and scammers. But the title of the email grabbed her attention.
Tossing the towelette in the bathroom trash can, she sighed and picked up her phone, scanning the email quickly.
Hi Mary,
My name is Christine Wagner. I’ve been reading your blog for the last couple of years and greatly appreciate the care and attention you put into each case. I know this may sound strange, but I’m not sure who else to turn to. The police can’t make heads or tails of it and neither can I.
My husband passed away recently at home. When he passed, he had a note in his hand. A random series of words. It’s nonsense to me, but I was wondering if you would meet for coffee to look it over? I know you’re based in Denver, and I’m nearby in Boulder. I’d be happy to come to you.
I hope you don’t think this is a crazy request and will consider a short meeting.
