“Global warming is built for us not to care”. How to change that?
Recently, I was listening to a conversation between Dave Gardner and Dan Ariely. Ariely is a behavioural economist and was telling about the way people perceive climate change.

Global warming is built for us not to care
According to Ariely: “global warming is built for us not to care”: the consequences of climate change will only be felt in the long term, it is not certain to all people that climate change will happen, other people will feel the consequences of climate change first and we believe that the actions we take will not have an effect on solving the problem.
How to make people care?
Now we know the elements why people do not care about climate change. Can we use this knowledge to make people care? Probably.
In Ariely’s answer, I mainly see the problem that global warming is not an immediate threat to people. They can turn a blind eye to the problem and forget about it. That is because global warming is invisible to us humans. So we have to make the problem visible.
When I realised that, I remembered a video I saw years ago:
I think it sends a very powerful message. But people will see this video once and forget about it 10 minutes later. So how can we make visualisation more lasting?
Should we add some chemical to the fuel of all our cars that gives some sort of color to CO2 emitted? Should we add a CO2 counter on the dashboard of our car, so we see the immediate effects of our actions? Or should we make VR/AR app that shows how much CO2 is being emitted while we are walking around the city?
What do you think? How can we make global warming visible to all of us? Let us know in the comments.
