Over the weekend in an Orang Asli village in Jerantut, Sekolah Iklim collaborated with our Voice and Visibility’s CEDAW research team on a women and climate consultation. Central to our discussion? Documenting the underrepresented voices of young Indigenous women in climate governance and decision making

Our deep dive explored their future aspirations and views on community-level climate governance. This venture aligns with KAMY’s mission to document, bridge data gaps around gender analysis and elevate the voices of young Orang Asli women.

Big thanks to our Weaving Hopes for the Future Orang Asli researchers, Suney and Diana, for their invaluable groundwork support! 🙌

Over the years since our work began, we identified language as a persistent barrier in public participation. Especially for frontline communities hardest hit by climate disasters, language barriers can exclude the youth from climate dialogues and decision making. Providing resources like interpreters, quality translations, training, and financial support isn’t optional — it’s essential. We must ensure that young Orang Asli women are seen and heard. Together, let’s shape an inclusive climate narrative! 🤝
