As Jeff Goldblum demonstrated in 1986, sometimes a fly can garner a cult-like following. I’ve trusted my day to this fly in nearly every water and weather condition in which I’ve fished — trust me when I say, it delivers a Jeff Goldblum-worthy performance where other flies have failed.
To enhance the Thin Mint pattern’s effectiveness, I’ve introduced two variations: a Deep & Heavy UV pattern, suited for deep, cold waters, and a Jig pattern, effective in fast water or as a tandem fly for a double bugger rig. Pairing a Thin Mint with a Crystal Bugger on my tandem rigs has proven highly effective under numerous conditions.
