With the month of January coming to an end — and players already starting to report to their spring training sites — baseball season must be near!

Before you know, Opening Knight of the 2024 season will be here.

But first…

A number of players from the 2023 Charlotte Knights roster have moved on to new organizations. While some were free agents, there have also been a few players who were designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox and claimed by new teams.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll take a look at some of the 2023 Knights that have moved on and will now play elsewhere in 2024.

DECLAN CRONIN
On December 28, 2023, RHP Declan Cronin was designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox. Just a few days later, Cronin was claimed by the Houston Astros.

The 2023 season was a memorable one for Cronin, who made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox on July 30, 2023. In all, he appeared in nine games with the Sox last season, going 0–1 with a 9.00 ERA (11.0 IP).

With the Knights, Cronin proved to be one of the most valuable pitchers out of the bullpen. He appeared in 47 games with the Knights last season and went 3–0 with two saves and a 3.83 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched.

It was his second strong campaign in Charlotte, as Cronin was also sharp in 2022 with the Knights. He went 1–0 with a 3.52 ERA in 27 games (23.0 IP) that season.

Originally drafted by the White Sox in the 36th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft from the College of the Holy Cross, Cronin now finds himself in a new organization for the 2024 season.

On behalf of everyone in the Knights organization, good luck, Declan! Thanks for all you did here in Charlotte. From your countless appearances in the Charlotte community, to your hard work on the field. Thanks and good luck in 2024!
