Baseball Cards Bring Me Back…

There’s a sports card show at Truist Field this weekend (Friday, February 9and Saturday, February 10). That brings me back. Back to my childhood. And that’s what its all about!

My first baseball card set was in 1987. I was six. My grandfather, Tom, bought me the entire 1987 Topps set. I was hooked!

As a kid, I bonded with both of my grandfathers through baseball cards. We went to card stores, card shows. I loved it.

Even more so, over the years, it brought me closer to my dad. When my family moved away from Brooklyn — and to the Poconos — it was my dad that kept that baseball card hobby alive for me.

My dad took me to card shows when I was young. Thanks to Strat-O-Matic, I learned a lot about the game of baseball — and it made me want vintage baseball cards! As a nine-year-old kid, I remember asking the dealer if he had any Wee Willie Keeler cards! Ha!

And now, collecting cards reminds me of the three great men I had in my life — who taught me about the game of baseball with help from baseball cards. I think of them often and I collect because of them.

Sadly, they are all gone now. And, I miss this so much.

Since my dad has been gone, my obsession for cards has taken on an even bigger part of my life these last two years. Getting a Brooklyn Dodgers card reminds me of him. I’m still bonding with him when I get a card like that.

On Friday, February 9, I had the chance to show off some cards on LIVE TV and spend the entire day at a card show.

You can watch that story below…

On Saturday, February 10, another day of cards. Another day to think of my dad and my grandfathers. The best. Miss my dad and grandfathers so much.
