RHP Zach Thompson, who posted a 5–2 record with the Charlotte Knights in 41 games out of the team’s bullpen in 2019, was recently traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft, Thompson made his way through the organization and spent the 2019 season with the Knights. The right-hander struck-out 78 batters over 70.1 innings pitched and finished that season with a 5–2 record and a 5.50 ERA.

Thompson was also the co-winner of the 2019 Charlotte Knights Community Service Award with RHP Matt Foster.

He became a free agent after the 2020 season and signed with the Miami Marlins for the 2021 season.

In 2021, Thompson went 3–7 with a 3.24 ERA in 26 games (14 starts) over 75.0 innings pitched with the Marlins. It was his only season with Miami as he was traded to the Pirates on November 29, 2021 (he was dealt along with RHP Kyle Nicolas and OF Connor Scott to the Pirates for C Jacob Stallings).

Last year, Thompson spent the entire season with Pittsburgh and posted a 3–10 record with a 5.18 ERA in 29 games (22 games started) over 121.2 innings pitched.

Recently, the 29-year-old was designated by assignment by the Pirates. Now, the 6'7" righty is a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
