Hayes Slugs 13 in Home Run Derby

Danny Hayes represented the Charlotte Knights in the 2017 Triple-A Baseball Home Run Derby, which took place on Monday, July 10th in Tacoma, WA.

Hayes was tasked with going first. He hit nine home runs in the first round and made it into the second round. He added four more in the second round, and finished with a total of 13, but it wasn’t enough to qualify for the finals.

In the finals, Tacoma’s Dan Vogelbach faced off against Pawtucket’s Bryce Brentz. It was Brentz who went on to win after he recorded 18 in the finals.

Hayes is the first Knights player since 2015 to participate in the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby and the club’s sixth overall. Matt Davidson, who is currently a member of the Chicago White Sox, represented the Knights at the 2015 edition in Omaha, NE. Other Knights to take part in the event over the years include Jim Thome (1993), Russ Morman (1997), Dayan Viciedo (2011), and Dan Johnson (2012).
