Knights Knotes — 7/30/22
KNIGHT LIGHTS: The Charlotte Knights (34–63) will play game five of a six-game road series against Nashville Sounds (59–37) from First Horizon Park with first pitch at 8:05 p.m. ET tonight. The Knights have gone just 1–9 over the last 10 games and enter today with an overall five-game losing streak.
RECENT ROAD TRIP: The Knights are 1–6 on this nine-game road trip after dropping two of three against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to start the trip (Friday-Sunday) and the first four games of this series against the Nashville Sounds. The Knights are 15–34 on the road in 2022.
THE SOUNDS SERIES: The Knights are just 1–9 this season in nine games against the Nashville Sounds. The two teams first met in a six-game series at Nashville, TN from April 19–24. Charlotte’s lone win this season against the Sounds came on Wednesday, April 21 (5–1). The Knights enter tonight’s game having lost seven straight games against the Sounds.
ABOUT LAST KNIGHT: A three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning by Keston Hiura propelled the Nashville Sounds to a 4–2 win over the Charlotte Knights on Friday in game four of the six-game series from First Horizon Park in Nashville, TN. The Knights held onto a 2–1 lead over the Sounds into the eighth inning until the three-run blast from Hiura, which came off Charlotte reliever Yacksel Ríos (3–3, 5.06). The Charlotte right-handed pitcher allowed a leadoff walk to Brice Turang in the eighth and then walked Garrett Whitley. With two on and no outs, Hiura connected on his fifth home run of the season. Ríos was charged with the loss after the Knights failed to score in the ninth inning against Nashville reliever Trevor Kelley. He notched his sixth save of the season.
PARKE PLACE: LHP John Parke (2–10, 6.82) started last night’s game and was solid over five innings. Parke, who threw just 80 pitches, allowed one run on five hits over five innings. He struck-out three batters and was in line for a win until the three-run eighth inning. He left the game with a 2–1 lead by the Knights. For the season, Parke is now fourth in the IL in innings pitched with 97.2. He is also tied for ninth in the IL in strikeouts with 80.
TO-KNIGHT’S STARTING PITCHER: LHP Steven Moyers (1–1, 7.13) will get the ball tonight for the Knights in game five of the series. Tonight’s start will be his second of the season with the Knights and 13th overall appearance with the team this year. His lone start of the season came on July 2 against the Durham Bulls. He allowed one run over two innings. Moyers last pitched three days ago in relief against the Sounds (7/27: 2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 1 SO).
REHABBING BURGER: INF Jake Burger, who is currently on the Chicago White Sox 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his right hand, began a major league rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights on Wednesday. He is 2-for-10 at the plate in the three games combined.
ROBERT REHAB: OF Luis Robert, who is currently on the Chicago White Sox 10-day injured list with blurred vision, began a major league rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday and had one hit (1-for-5). He did not play last night and will not play the rest of the series. Robert, 24, was placed on Chicago’s injured list on July 22 (retroactive to July 19). He has appeared in 74 games with the White Sox this season and is hitting .301 (92-for-306) with 48 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs and 54 RBIs. Last year, he hit .338 (93-for-275) with 42 runs scored, 22 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 43 RBIs with the White Sox in 68 games.
