KNIGHTS KNOTES — July 9, 2021
KNIGHT LIGHTS: The Charlotte Knights (24–31, 5th) will continue a six-game road series tonight with game four of the series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (29–26, 3rd) from Jacksonville, FL at 121 Financial Ballpark.
KNIGHTS VS. SHRIMP: The Knights and Jumbo Shrimp met for the first-time ever at Truist Field earlier this season from June 15 to June 19. The Knights won three of the five games in the five-game, rain-shortened series. The game on Sunday, June 20 (Father’s Day) was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Truist Field on Thursday, July 29th (two seven-inning games with first pitch of game one on tap for 6:05 p.m.). With two wins last night, the Knights are now 6–2 this season against Jacksonville.
DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP: Last night’s doubleheader was Charlotte’s first of the season and the team made the most of it by winning both games. It was Charlotte’s first doubleheader sweep since June 22, 2019 when the team beat the Louisville Bats twice at Truist Field. In fact, the Knights swept two doubleheaders in 2019 (the other came on April 9 at Truist Field against the Norfolk Tides).
ABOUT LAST KNIGHT: The Charlotte Knights won both games of Thursday’s doubleheader over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. Charlotte took game one by a score of 4–2 and came back to win game two by a score of 4–3. With the wins, the Knights improved to 6–2 this season against the Jumbo Shrimp. In game one, RHP Jonathan Stiever (3–4, 5.76) earned the win after he allowed two runs on four hits over five innings pitched. Stiever walked just one and struck-out five.
SILENCED BY THE LAMBERT: In game two, RHP Jimmy Lambert (3–0, 3.75) earned his third win over his last four starts. The 26-year-old righty gave up three runs on six hits over five innings. Over his last four starts, Lambert is 3–0 with a 2.29 ERA (19.2 IP/18 SO).
NICK AT KNIGHT: In seven games this month, OF Nick Williams is hitting .304 (7-for-23) with a .360 on-base percentage.
ZACH ATTACK: With another home run last night, INF Zach Remillard now has three home runs over his last five games. He’s hitting .316 (6-for-19) over that five-game span. In seven games this month, he’s hitting .296 (8-for-27) with three home runs and three RBIs.
TOKNIGHTS STARTING PITCHER: RHP Reynaldo López (0–6, 8.73) gets the start in game four of the series tonight, his second start this season against Jacksonville. He was saddled with the loss against the Jumbo Shrimp at Truist Field on June 15 (L, 4.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO). His best start of the season came on Sunday, June 27 at Nashville. On that day, López struck-out 11 batters over six solid innings but did not factor in the decision.
THE WRIGHT STUFF: RHP Mike Wright (5–1, 3.10), the Triple-A East Pitcher of the Month for June, is currently among the Triple-A East leaders in a number of categories. His 3.10 ERA is tops in the Triple-A East. He is also tied for fourth in strikeouts (60), tied for fourth in wins (5), second in batting average against (.198), second in WHIP (0.97), third in IP (61.0) and tied for first in win percentage (.833).
