KNIGHTS KNOTES — June 16, 2019
KNIGHT LIGHTS: The Charlotte Knights will conclude their six-game road trip today and attempt to complete the final two games of their three-game series against the Rochester Red Wing from Rochester, NY. The Knights opened their six-game road trip on Tuesday, July 11 with game one of a three-game series in Syracuse, NY against the Syracuse Mets. This was the first time in 2019 that the Knights and Syracuse Mets played a game and the first time the Knights faced the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets since 2012 when the Knights faced the Buffalo Bisons at Buffalo, NY on July 23 (finale of a four-game series). The Knights dropped the opener, battled back to win game two, but dropped the finale on Thursday. The Knights dropped Friday’s opener in Rochester and are 1–3 on the road trip and are now 14–18 on the road this season.
KNIGHTS VS. RED WINGS: The Knights and Rochester Red Wings will conclude their three-game series in Rochester, NY tonight. The two teams met earlier this season at BB&T Ballpark from May 14–16 with the Knights earning a three-game series sweep. In that series, the Knights hit .305 (32-for-105) as a team with nine home runs and 23 RBIs. With the 7–6 loss on Friday, the Knights are 3–1 against the Red Wings in 2019 with the final two games set for today.
SUSPENDED ON SATURDAY: Saturday’s game between the Charlotte Knights and Rochester Red Wings from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY has been suspended due to rain. The two teams will resume Saturday’s suspended game at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday. The two teams will play that game to its conclusion (nine innings) and then play the regularly scheduled game, which will be a seven-inning contest. The game will be picked up on Sunday in the bottom of the third inning with two outs, a runner on first base, and the Red Wings ahead of the Knights by a score of 7–5.
RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY: With last night’s game being suspended due to inclement weather, the Knights have now had four games suspended due to weather and four games postponed. The Knights are 4–2 so far this season in doubleheaders. They will resume their suspended game from May 5 on Friday, June 28 in Columbus, OH.
KNIGHTS STARTING PITCHER: LHP Justin Nicolino (4–2, 4.95) will get the start in the originally scheduled game. He will make his eighth start of the season with the Knights today and first against his former team, the Rochester Red Wings. He is 3–1 with a 4.87 ERA in seven starts this season with the Knights (40.2 IP). Nicolino was signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on May 5. He began the season in the Minnesota Twins organization and was released by the club after he went 1–1 with a 5.12 ERA in four games (three starts) with the Rochester Red Wings (19.1 IP).
