Jhan Mariñez first joined the Chicago White Sox organization in 2012 when he was part of the compensation from Miami for manager Ozzie Guillen. He was also joined in that deal by infielder Ozzie Martinez. Both players made their organization debuts with the Charlotte Knights that April. Now, Mariñez is back in the organization for the 2022 season.

On March 7, the White Sox signed Mariñez, bringing the Dominican native back to the organization. The 33-year-old right hander last pitched in the majors in 2018 with the Baltimore Orioles.

CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS
Mariñez spent the majority of the 2012 season with the Charlotte Knights and was very effective out of he team’s bullpen. He posted a 4–2 record with four saves and a 2.86 ERA in 63.0 innings pitched (40 games). He allowed just 39 hits and struck-out 65 batters. He proved to be a valuable asset to the Knights, who won 83 games that season and made the playoffs for the first time in six seasons.

Over the course of the 2012 campaign, Mariñez earned his first of two promotions to Chicago on July 13, 2012. He was sent back to Charlotte five days later and was recalled after the conclusion of Charlotte’s season on September 14.

A season later, Mariñez was back in Charlotte and appeared in 20 games with the team during the club’s final year in Fort Mill, SC. He posted a 2–4 record with two saves and a 6.11 ERA this time around. It was his final season in the organization as he was a free agent at the end of the year.

MAJOR LEAGUE NUMBERS
Mariñez made two scoreless appearances with the White Sox in 2012 and did not see a major league mound again until four years later when he was a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. He went 0–0 with a 2.45 ERA in three games out of Tampa’s bullpen, allowing just one run over 3.2 innings pitched. Despite the success, he was designated for assignment on May 8 and later traded to the Milwaukee Brewers.

As a member of the Brewers, Mariñez went on to appear in 43 games in 2016 and posted a 0–1 record with a 3.22 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched. It was another successful stint for Mariñez, but over the next few seasons, he moved around quite a bit.

In 2017, he spent time at the major league level with three different teams (Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and Texas). A year later — his last in the majors — he spent time with the Baltimore Orioles.

LAST THREE SEASONS
Mariñez has spent the last three years (2019–21) split between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. He appeared in a total of 53 games over that three-year stretch.

CAREER NUMBERS
Overall, Mariñez enters the 2022 season with 103 big league games under his belt. He is 1–5 with a 3.56 ERA in 134.0 major league innings over the course of five seasons. At the minor league level, he owns a career mark of 32–29 with 41 saves and a 4.53 ERA over 354 games (481.0 innings pitched).
