Danny Mendick was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Massachusetts Lowell. After a year in New York — with both the New York Mets and Syracuse Mets — he’s back in the White Sox organization. And that’s great news!

Mendick first made his way to Charlotte in 2016 — playing two games for the Knights that year. Three years later, he was back with the Knights and had an impressive season.

In 2019 with the Knights, Mendick appeared in a team-high 133 games and hit .279 (133-for-477) with 75 runs scored, 26 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. He ranked second in the International League in games played, sixth in hits, tied for eighth in runs scored, tied for ninth in stolen bases, and fifth in walks (66).

That season, Mendick played 48 games at second base, 38 at third base, 42 at shortstop, and nine in the outfield.

For his tremendous efforts with the Knights that year, he was named to the Charlotte Knights All-Decade Team (2010–19).

In 2020, the Minor League Baseball season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For Mendick, he had a chance to play extended time for the White Sox — and impressed in 33 games. He was even a finalist for an American League Gold Glove.

I caught up with Mendick in 2020 for my At The Dish Podcast. You can listen to that below…

Mendick played for the White Sox again in 2021 and 2022 — appearing in a combined 102 games. He was a free agent after the 2022 season and went on to spend a season with the New York Mets organization.

The good news is — he’s back in the White Sox organization. He is a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.

Welcome back to the organization, Danny!
