One of my favorite scenes in a movie!

I feel like Steve Martin! Although, this is better than a new phone book!

Every year, right around this time, I look forward to the day that the new Baseball America Prospect Handbook arrives. Well, today was that day!

As someone who works in Minor League Baseball — the annual prospect handbook plays an important role in my day-to-day operations. Especially during the baseball season.

This year’s cover features Jackson Holliday.

While I am mostly focused on the top prospects from the Chicago White Sox system, it’s nice to know the top prospects for the other teams in the International League. There’s tons of tidbits for game notes and tons of info that can be passed on to broadcasters. It’s a great read!

As someone who eats, breathes and dreams baseball — the prospect handbook is a great tool. I spend time each year studying it and remembering it through the years.

Prospect Handbooks through the years!

My Baseball America Prospect Handbook collection dates back to 2007. All of those books are in my office on my bookshelf. I love going back to them each year — checking to see just what the prospect lists looked like back then.

For instance, do you remember who the top prospect was for the Chicago White Sox in 2007 according to Baseball America?

Answer: Ryan Sweeney

Stay tuned for more info on this year’s White Sox Top 30 Prospects and some from past seasons.
