Last season, the Charlotte Knights featured an array of top prospects in the Chicago White Sox system. From start to finish, the Knights featured one of their most prospect-laden rosters in franchise history.

When the Knights made their 2017 season debut on April 5th at BB&T Ballpark, the club’s Opening Day roster featured five of the organization’s top seven prospects — Yoan Moncada (1), Lucas Giolito (2), Reynaldo Lopez (3), Zack Burdi (6), and Carson Fulmer (7).

As time went by, most of those prospects — along with several others — moved on to the majors. In return, some of the system’s other notable prospects made their way to Uptown Charlotte. One of those exciting young prospects was Jake Peter (16).

Peter, who appeared in 62 games with the Knights in 2016, returned to the Knights in 2017, when he was promoted from Double-A Birmingham on July 19th.

Peter, a second baseman, replaced Moncada, who was recalled to Chicago on the same day (July 19, 2017). Certainly big shoes to fill for Peter, as Moncada was ranked as the top prospect in all of Major League Baseball at that time. Still, Peter, who also wore jersey #10, quickly shined for the Knights.

At the time of his promotion to Charlotte, Peter was in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak with the Barons. His hot streak continued when he arrived in the Queen City.

Peter quickly carried his success over to Triple-A and hit safely in his first nine games with the Knights — giving him an overall streak of 18-straight games. Over that span, he hit .384 (27-for-73) during that impressive 18-game streak.

In 11 games with the Knights in July, the Mason City, Iowa native hit .370 (17-for-46) with nine runs scored, four doubles, four home runs, and 10 RBIs. For his efforts that month, Peter was named as the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Month (July).

He was also the “Player of the Game” on July 25th, which included a post-game interview water surprise. Photos (courtesy of Laura Wolff/Charlotte Knights) & video below…

For the 2017 season with the Knights, Peter hit .292 (52-for-178) with 28 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 28 RBIs in 45 games

Most recently, Peter was part of a three-team trade between the Chicago White Sox , Kansas City Royals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the deal, Peter was traded to the Dodgers.

Here’s the official press release:

The Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers have completed a three-team, five-player trade, with the White Sox acquiring left-handed pitcher Luis Avilán, right-hander Joakim Soria and cash considerations from the Dodgers in exchange for minor-league infielder Jake Peter. The Dodgers acquired Soria and left-hander Scott Alexander from Kansas City in return for infielder Erick Mejia and right-hander Trevor Oaks.

On behalf of the Knights front office, I wish Jake lots of success in his new organization. Thanks for all of your hard work for us over the past two seasons. Good luck!
