For parts of three seasons, Tyler Flowers was the catcher for the Charlotte Knights. During that time, he was one of the Chicago White Sox brightest prospects — and one of the system’s newest prospects.

On December 4, 2008, Flowers was traded to the White Sox from the Atlanta Braves (with Jon Gilmore, Santos Rodriguez, and Brent Lillibridge) for Boone Logan and Javier Vazquez.

In 2009 — his first season with the Knights — Flowers entered the season ranked as the fourth-best prospect in Chicago’s organization. He appeared in 31 games with the Knights after excelling at the plate in Double-A Birmingham. He hit .286 with the Knights before a promotion to Chicago that September.

A season later, he was back with the Knights and was once again rated as one of the top prospects in the organization. He entered the 2010 season ranked as the number two overall prospect in the system and had a solid season at the plate — and behind it.

He appeared in 100 games with the Knights in 2010 and hit 16 home runs. He was a 2010 International League All-Star and once again earned a promotion to the White Sox that year.

The 2011 season was his last as a member of the Knights — and his last in Triple-A. Flowers played 65 games with the Knights that year and hit 15 home runs — giving him a combined 31 home runs in two seasons with the Knights (165 games). He went on to play for the White Sox in 2011 and then was a member of the team’s roster for the next four full seasons (2012–2015).

A free agent after the 2015 season, Flowers went back to his roots and signed with the Atlanta Braves — the team that drafted him in the 33rd round of the 2005 draft. He’s been a member of the Braves for each of the past three seasons (2016–2018) and now has a chance to play postseason baseball after the Braves won the National League East this season (2018). In parts of 10 major league seasons, Flowers has 74 home runs and 262 RBIs.
