Quietly, the Chicago White Sox signed a 28-year-old Gold Glove Award-winning middle infielder on August 25 and assigned him to their alternate training site in Schaumburg. Just six days later, this infielder was promoted to Chicago.

His name is Yolmer Sánchez — a fan favorite in both Charlotte and Chicago!

A free agent after the 2019 season, Sánchez signed with the San Francisco Giants on January 31, 2020. On August 21, he was released by the Giants. His return was inevitable.

Last season, Sánchez hit .252 (125-for-496) with 20 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 43 RBIs, and five stolen bases with the White Sox. More importantly, Sánchez played outstanding defense and earned a Rawlings Gold Glove at Second Base.

Before his return to the White Sox this season, Sanchez played in parts of six seasons with the team compiling 543 hits in 648 games. Even more so, Sánchez has always been a fan favorite on and off-the-field.

Fans of the Charlotte Knights got their first glimpse of Sánchez in 2012 when he made his Triple-A debut as a young 20-year-old shortstop.

For his career with the Knights, Sánchez ranks sixth all-time in franchise history in games, fourth in at-bats (1,274), fourth in hits (347), tied for ninth in doubles (62), tied for fourth in triples (10), eighth in runs scored (162), and eighth in stolen bases (47).

For his efforts, he was named as the Second Baseman on the All-Decade Team (2010–19) earlier this year.
