Still a Kid at Heart

Sometimes I need to stop and realize where my career has taken me. Maybe I need to pinch myself. Maybe I need to think back to my long college days or the days of being turned down for a baseball job for three straight years. It wasn’t easy to get here, but I’m here, and I’m living my dream.

Baseball is in my blood. My grandfathers were Mets fans. My dad took me to my first Mets game in 1986 and we enjoyed many games together. I could only hope to take my son, Anthony, to a game someday.

I remember going to Shea Stadium like it was yesterday. I met my hero that day in 1986 at my first game — Gary Carter — and he signed my program. Even though I was five years old, I remember it.

I wrote about The Kid in 2017…

Over the years — before I got to work in the game — I watched baseball religiously. I watched the Mets as much as I could. In the 1980’s, 1990’s, & 2000’s, I was a huge fan.

Earlier today, I had a chance to talk to one of my favorites, Howard Johnson. What a great guy. We talked Mets, we talked about his former teammate, Mark Dacko, we talked about Charlotte, and we talked about his career today. It was great. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself.

Dreams do come true and hard work pays off.
