While crafting in a town, you stumble upon a book. In your peripheral view, you notice a dark creature sneaking over one of the roofs. You raise an eye. Nothing. You turn your head back to the book, the title mysteriously transforms into “Dev Blog”.

This issue is all about the environment of the dark fantasy MMORPG, Knight Lands. This has a lot of thought going into it as we want to ensure the ascetics are correct as the player walks around the world.

As usual, we have a short video, describing our progress if that suits you better.

ART & DESIGN

Starting with structures and house design, we’ve spent a lot of time designing places that will appear not too busy but populated enough for players to have conversations, trade, and discuss PVP tactics without losing any immersion in the game.

Here we can see a blacksmith area we’re working on. We’re experimenting with various different designs, focusing on what a player will find recognizable and testing it in concepts to check if it matches the style of the game. After we’re happy with it, we move to the 3d modeling stages before implementing it into the prototype for the game devs to work with.

As you may know from the previous blogs, we’ve been teaching AI to generate various imagery, based on the descriptions we input. After we’re happy with the general vibe of the imagery, we create our own version to make it more applicable to the game. Adding paths and extra details to enhance the mood we’re going for with the area of the game. In this case, we’re creating a dark forest.

Next up, We’re exploring various 3d models of Spider Eggs. These will be used in the game to hatch spiders that will attack the player. They’ll hatch if a player gets close to it or the eggs are hit by projectiles.

GAME DEVELOPMENT

For game development, we’ve continued progress on the game’s framework.

On the server side, we’ve been working on the scripting engine, which was finished yesterday. This will be very important for efficiency going forward.

We’re also working on our own network movement protocols to smooth out movement on a higher level than current existing protocols. This type of development has been a common theme from our team as we want to innovate to create an environment where we can operate at maximum productivity. This will help us create a game at record speeds, at high quality, and without spending as much as other studios, adding to the longevity aspect of the project.

That concludes this week’s dev blog. For further updates, be sure to check back in two weeks. As a game studio, we intend to be as honest and reliable as possible for all of you who are enthusiastic about the high-quality game we’re making.
