Knight Lands Dev Blog — 16/09/2022
As you stand at the edge of a dark fog, you hear a clang of swords, a slice of flesh, and the final whimper of an injured man. A scroll is flung onto the ground in front of you. You pick it up. It reads “dev blog”.
This week, both our game development and art divisions achieved outstanding strides. We hope to demonstrate our openness and reliability to the community at large through these blogs. If you appreciate that, do help us by passing this along to another player.
For those of you pressed for time, see our brief video, which summarizes and depicts our work.

ART & DESIGN
This last few weeks, we’ve been mainly focusing on spider animation and character concept art. This will all go towards the final game but also flesh out a beautiful cinematic trailer to show you all the dark fantasy MMORPG we’re building.
First, an update on our hanging spider egg cocoons. As you can see, we’re refining the exploration to make it appear more detailed. This is key to making it look less like a liquid and more like a tangled web. This is also effective in defining the weight of the eggs, showing strain in different areas of the cocoon.
Next, we have some sword concept art for our characters to wield. It’s important to make these large enough to be recognizable within the game between players. That way, players can analyze each other and plan for PVP or PVE in our open-world sandbox.
And finally, for art, we can see one of our spiders in its animation phase. With all of our animations, we’re extensively researching how creatures attack in the real world and then applying it to our models to make our creatures look and act in an immersive and realistic way. You can see a shift of weight, momentum building throughout the attack, and the apex of the attack being the fastest moment, as you’d see in the real world.
GAME DEVELOPMENT
Our developers have been continuing work on the in-game mechanics with great success. With lots of our server and client framework built, we’re moving forward with in-game elements such as:
- Gathering mechanics
- Technical tasks for the NPC AI
- Structure for animation trees to be imported
- Early UI planning
That concludes this week’s dev blog. For further updates, be sure to check back in two weeks. As a game studio, we intend to be as honest and reliable as possible for all of you who are enthusiastic about the high-quality game we’re making.
