Knight Lands Dev Blog — 30/09/2022
You stand at the top of a mountain, overlooking a large valley. You see a hooded figure in the far distance. He suddenly raises his arms. A loud, blinding explosion erupts from his hands and blasts across the sky. As the smoke clears, a glowing red fluid remains in the air. It spells “Dev blog.”
We have made fantastic progress this week as we finalize certain assets and character concepts. There’s also been a lot of progress made on the animations and 3d environment of our cinematic trailer, and we are working towards a release of this over the next few months.

ART & DESIGN
Our artists have been finalizing character class design and continuing work on our second mob set, the Sylvanites.
Here is an exploration of our archer class. As this is a dark-fantasy MMO, we want to make sure the silhouette looks menacing enough to allow the colors to stay in sync with the dark style of the game.
Next, we have an early sketch of our Aged Sylvanite Creature. The shape of this creature is vital to get right as it may look good from 1 angle but not from a top-down perspective in-game. Refining these shapes early can avoid disruptions in the modeling phases of mob development.
As we plan to have lots of mobs in the game, it can be difficult for some game studios to determine the size of these creatures. Creating maps such as this gives everyone at Silverblock Studios a good idea of how much time it will take to make and how much detail each mob will need to allow for optimized gameplay.
GAME DEVELOPMENT
Our developers are still working on the in-game mechanisms with tremendous success. As lots of the tech for efficiency has been developed, we are advancing with in-game components like:
- Improving the ability creation tool
This will help our devs work on the abilities of characters and mobs. This will include VFX management and balancing the abilities for variables such as range, damage, and animation length.
- Exploring Gaia Pro to aid in procedural terrain creation
Gaia Pro is one of the most talked about development tools of late, so it’s no surprise that our innovative team is exploring how we can best use this to our advantage. With such a massive map in our MMO, we are always considering how to best fill that map with correctly themed assets in a time-efficient but cost-effective way. Tools such as Gaia Pro allow this to but a swift process with minimal input, allowing our team to focus on all areas of the map more easily.
- Working on the main quest line and plot of the game.
Although most players don’t realize it, there’s always much thought going into an MMORPG’s main questlines. The quest line must allow the player to travel across all map areas, including populated areas. It will enable the player to learn the game without the frustration of traveling too much on each quest or breaking immersion in the story for unnecessary reasons.
- Technical Tasks for the friendly NPC AI
Each NPC character will have standard, replicable tasks throughout the game, while other more essential NPCs may have unique interactions. We’re focusing on making this as efficient as possible so that no conflicting tasks or bugs emerge as development progresses.
