Rock Climbing is a game changer for me

I have been climbing since I was a little kid, luckily enough, I grew up in Colorado and as a family we would go climbing every now and again. We had our own gear and it was a fun family activity.

I didn’t really get into it much in high school but in college got back into climbing again and often. Took it to a new level and have recently noticed all the amazing benefits it provides me.

1. Best Way To Clear Your Mind

This has to be the most amazing thing about climbing for me, it is literally one of the only things that I can do where I go for an extended amount of time without thinking about some work or personal problem. It’s incredible. As you are hanging off the edge of a way or rock face and you have to use all your mental strength to solve the next problem and physical strength to actually accomplish the desired move.

It brings a whole new sense to “clearing your head” and really allows me to reset and be clear again. There’s nothing else like it for me, and I think the science done by Steven Kotler would back it up as he talks about extreme sports creating an instant flow state. It’s a rush for sure, and an easy way to get there immediately.

If you are stuck on something, go climb it does wonders.

2. Perfect Opposite Of Most Work Situations

I spend a lot of time each day sitting or standing at a desk. Naturally a little more hunched over looking at a screen and working through different problems. As such, even with the best posture all day, my back is still often a little more hunched over than I’d like.

The beauty of rock climbing is it naturally requires the opposite to be true, where you are arched backed and working on strength that being at a desk compromises.

They play together nicely and create a wonderful opposites game for me.

If you haven’t tried climbing yet you definitely should, and don’t worry it’s really not that scary, in fact, I almost guarantee you’ll get addicted.
