27th Trip Around the Sun
And a perfectly baked red velvet cake
It seems that when you turn 27, certain changes are expected. It is said that many people reach their peak physical performance in their late 20s, but at the same time their metabolism starts to slow down slightly. I’m quite happy about that; maybe I’ll finally find it easier to put on some weight.
There are changes to the skin too, with fine lines and wrinkles starting to appear. Then there are the hormonal changes to look forward to (yippee, how I love being a woman!).
Beyond the physical changes, there’s an increase in maturity and wisdom. I think that’s true for some, but if you look around, that doesn’t seem to be the case worldwide. For me, I think the process may have started a while ago, very slowly, with the realisation that I can’t be all things to all people. I’ve gradually become more visible to myself and understood how I was absorbing the personalities around me, which made me feel porous and vulnerable.
In so many cases, I’ve taken on the role of unpaid advice columnist for friends and family. At 27, I’m officially taking my annual leave and enjoying my red velvet cake (literally and figuratively).
This year is about sweetness, elegance and a wealth of experiences, growth and beautiful creations.
I’m so excited.
