5 ADHD Symptoms I Overcame Without Therapy Or Medication
Warning: I did this the hard way
As an undiagnosed neurodivergent, my childhood and twenties were massively stressful. Every day felt twice as hard for no discernible reason, and even the simplest decisions would send me into a whirl of anxiety.
The worst part — I had zero support for any of this. If I was overwhelmed, I was called lazy; if I was anxious, I was accused of overreacting. Growing up in India, anything to do with mental health was taboo, and if you claimed to need help with it, well, what you probably needed was a good slap across the face.
Eventually, I figured out that I was on my own — and I’d have to put in triple the effort to overcome these stressors if I wanted a good life.
Overall, I’d say it took me a good ten years to get to a comfortable space with these symptoms. It did not come easy, and it was not fun. I had to basically push myself over and over until the change happened.
But doing it on my own also gave me the space to experiment, dial back, and really understand what worked for me, rather than what advice columns said I should do. Which meant that when I found my solutions, they were ones I could actually stick to long-term.
