Rising in the morning under the pretext that you will not have any negative encounters in the day is to rise disillusioned.

We humans are not the “positive-only” type. We are not machines that can be programmed to give only one type of output in any regard. We are moody, emotional, dramatic, unpredictable, and self-centered. This is our default state and it’s the state we should expect to find people as we encounter them throughout the day, too.

Not every encounter will be with people in this state, of course. It will oftentimes be the case that we encounter people of the opposite nature. And for that, we should certainly be grateful. But, at least under this pretext — that there will be negative encounters — we can prepare.

For, now, we won’t be surprised when we have negative encounters — we’ll be ready instead. Ready to not reciprocate negativity, but rather, see the encounters for what they really are: somebody in their default state who’s having a hard time of it.

And we can respond more clearly, more kindly, and more appropriately. Not just for the other person, but for ourselves. So we can get on with our day free of uninvited negativity; free of…
