A Greeting Without an Answer

Another missed opportunity?

I was leaving my house, all sad,
Thinking about the loneliness that awaited me
All weekend…

However, two minutes into the walk
An unknown woman greeted me
Blue jeans, grey jacket, black hair
Younger than me, attractive, friendly.

I had ten meters to cross.
She had just crossed, and she greeted me
About two meters before she crossed me
However, I passed by.
Because I didn’t recognize her, and I barely heard her.

Because it was barely like a whisper
However, it must have been something.
Because her greeting, her body, and her voice
I couldn’t get it out of my head.

And even less the missed opportunity
With each step, I took as I moved forward
She became more and more distant.

It was an unreturned greeting.
A damned greeting without an answer!
Without any interaction on my part
No questioning her about
Whether I knew her or not, or
How could she know me?
