A Shift In Mood

Or Something Deeper Happening

I have written often lately about:
Tiredness of spirit and body
Fear for the environment
Democracy under attack throughout the world
The impersonality characterizing modern life
Violence destroying countless lives in many countries
The homeless and the hungry
The lack of respect for women
Health care systems based on market based incentives
Leading to unequal access and care
Mental health services vastly insufficient to address the needs
Existential angst and anomie

But not today

A change has overtaken me
More light than gray colors my horizon
How this happened is unclear
Was it happening silently and stealthily for a while
Going undetected until it strengthened
Did cooler weather after such a dreadful summer play a role
Perhaps
It’s not important to understand the how
But simply to acknowledge that it is
And the resultant feeling is good indeed
Almost gloriously so
