A Well-Loved Blanket That Holds His Memory
The comfort of Kyle’s blankie
It’s basked in the ocean breeze of Honduras, and the city lights of Paris. It’s grazed airport floors and rested upon freshly cut park grass. It’s been met with joyful conversations in the sunshine, and quiet tears in the corner of the living room. It’s been held by rough and callous hands, but knows the touch of softer ones, too.
Kyle’s blankie.
It’s been a pillow, yoga prop, napkin, tissue, and tablecloth.
Patched together with an assortment of unique shapes and patterns, it’s more a work of art than it is a blanket. He got it the same day he purchased his coffee table, both handmade in India.
One side is filled with blue and pink hues. And on a section of the same side, are more muted tones of green and yellow, bringing to life flowers, delicate vines, and other shapes.
Splashes of bright color are modest, and — it seems — intentional.
The other side is much different. Against a navy blue backdrop are an array of orange and yellow flowers, with original lines and stripes around them. It’s striking…
