Another One

It is brighter

My dog circles
three times clockwise
and two times
anti-clockwise
before lying down
to sleep
in his bed.

You lie on your left side, always.

It is raining tonight.
The curtain’s edge beats
gently against the window
as the autumn night breeze
works its way inside.

It is dark, at first. But then,
slowly, as my pupils dilate,
shapes begin to brighten.

A faint glow
creeps through the edges
of the curtain leaving a
shadow, as if slender fingers
are trying to make their way in.

I am awake.
It is brighter.
