“One is the loneliest number that you could ever do

Two can be as bad as one

It’s the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you’ll ever know

Yes, it’s the saddest experience you’ll ever know

Cause one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do

One is the loneliest number, whoa-oh, worse than two”

Harry Nilsson

What a great song but how depressing are these lyrics?

What does it mean to be single in 2021? Being single is not necessarily a choice. Of course, some of us choose to be single and are happy that way, or at least we say we are. Others have circumstances that thrust them into singleness.

Generally speaking, people need people. I think most of us would agree that being in a mutually fulfilling relationship is better than being alone in this world. Having someone by your side to share all the world has to offer can be a good thing, wouldn’t you agree?

Conversely, being accountable to only yourself also has its advantages. But, is it really abut being accountable?
