Spare change in the jar

How full is your jar of change? How many jars, bottles, or cans do you have? Are any of them full? Why, honestly, do we collect change?

As I unpacked boxes during my move I found an abundance of coin collections. Not rare coins but simple everyday pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters. Some were even rolled and ready. It got me thinking about the Serenity Prayer — the full version.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen. — — Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971)

Collecting pennies are like collecting moments. Gift wrapped moments to be enjoyed with acceptance. Not judging it based on how I want it but for the value it holds. 100 pennies equals a dollar. Wouldn’t you rather have a hundred tiny moments rather than one big one?
