Done Giving Comfort to the Oppressor

Let the bullies feel the pain of their actions

I have apologized for being hit
I have comforted my oppressor
I have bent and bowed
fretted and scurried
to make a path
for someone too big
too powerful
too noisy
too scary
to be held accountable
by me
or anyone

But there is a price
for all indisgressions
Someone must pay
for wrongdoings
And all too often
it is the victim

So many systems
erected long before we got here
are in place
to protect the mighty
so many people
work tirelessly
to protect the bully
without even being aware
the injustice they perpetuate
the burden they place
on the wounded
they are complicit
