Farewell
Hello Day
Poetry
You should have known me when I was alive.
Struggling to be loved and to survive.
You might have liked me if given half a chance.
Making my way through both day and night.
Not understood, or heard was the plight.
Still, I did my best until I grew to know death.

Damn, I tried with all of my might, working long days, into longer nights.
Fighting the good fight, invisible to the eyes of the world.
Just another of the undead, dreams slip away replaced with the daily dread.
I walked the earth, searching for hope until the very end.

You should have known me when I was alive.
Shadow in chase I ran for the light.
We all have our demons we are left alone to slay.
Finding my way through wrong onto the right.
Seeing the horizon was almost in sight.
I just became breathless without the love to stay.

Damn, I tell you I have to say, gave every ounce of heart’s blood in every way.
I fought the good fight and sidestepped the darkness-seeking brightness of day.
I walked the streets and dreams of every soul, asking for escape and wanting to know.
If the place I called home, was real and waiting for them at the end of the day.

You should have known me when I was alive.
Just taking a moment of your time.
So I could properly and politely say goodbye.
“These are the lyrics to a song I recently solidified in my mind before attempting recording.
They are words of many meanings and feelings, depending on your interpretation of life and death.
Depending on your spirituality, belief system, and thoughts on knowing the difference between survival versus responsibility.
If you are anything like me, they will bring both tears and a smile, they are the gateway to me in more ways than you might imagine.
I hope they provoke thought for you while rendering little judgment of me.
Thank you”
