“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do, say, and think.” — Marcus Aurelius.

When I first stumbled upon those words while reading Aurelius' Meditations, their weight profoundly reverberated in my inner core. Fascinated by how a man could arrive at such a conclusion, I was inspired to dig deeper within my realm of reasoning.

Was it that much of his works were contemplations written at war where any day could be your last? Was that his motivation, or was it something else? Who knows?

Nevertheless, I find such probing questions to be a catalyst for expanding one’s emotional depth.

I have come to experience that something changes in you when you start living every day, like it could be your last. I first came across Marcus’ renowned quote, “Do every act of your life as if it were your last,” while writing for an essay competition during my first year of high school.

Thankfully, that essay was accepted as it centered on finding purpose in one’s life, whether through adversity or good fortune. It was mainly about finding that one constant through it all.
