Here is what she said:

“The moment they go on about the universe — the moment they say, ‘the universe this, the universe that,’ I switch off immediately.”

I burned in response.

Rage coursed through my veins.

I wanted to respond to her story, to give her a piece of my mind. She is my younger cousin, and I had to educate her — to put her in her place, which was ironic.

See, it was — in fact — her place to voice her opinions, to express her thoughts about people and their dumb spiritual preferences.

Her Instagram stories were the exact platform to speak her mind. I, on the other hand, had no right to be vexed — to feel attacked by her words.

Maybe it wasn’t her.

Maybe my anger — my need to preserve my position, to defend my spiritual practices: the right to use the word Universe instead of God— was misplaced.
