Forgive & Forget
Neither presume the former nor expect the latter.
The righteous
have the strength
to let their malice go,
to forgive transgressors.
But not even the righteous
possess a capacity to unknow.
And if they think that we think
they should or could forget,
it adds insult to injury
and exacerbates
their mindset.
Only remorse,
honest and heartfelt,
now and for all of their life,
their faith and trust will reinforce.
Best friend, soulmate, husband, or wife.
All couples experience their share of ups and downs,
sorrows and joys, hopefuls and dreadfuls.
But to the latter, too often react
from emotion and impulse,
fixing temporary issues
that only seem unreconcilable
in the moment with spiteful solutions
that rob them of the joy of growing old together.
Forgetting for the moment what inspired their desire.
These are the times to slow the roll, pause, and remember.
