Compared to the average height of an Indian woman, I am supposedly quite tall. This has earned me quite a few animal names such as giraffe and dinosaur from kids. But they are such a source of joy, that I take it in my stride. However, I am not good with kids. I feel, they are intimidated by me or are just put off having to look all the way up to see my face. I do warm up to them eventually, but the deciding call is theirs if they want to strike a conversation. Most of the time, they approve of me. I feel my smile does the trick.

I was born in the building I presently reside in. Growing up, there were so many kids to play with. As I grew up, so did my peers and the result, no kids left to play with the new lot of kids. However, on the 6th floor of my building, there is one family that as moved in on rent. And in that family belongs a bright young kid, probably 7 or 8 years old. His name, Ayan.

Observing Ayan, I have learnt quite a few things. To begin with, he finds people to play with even though there is no one around. The security guard, old uncles in my building, the dog, in short whoever he believes to be kind, is a friend that he can play along with. That’s…
