How to Live an Illumined Life.
Let your light shine bright, so that others may see it is possible.
The most beautifully adorned candle, however great the potential, cannot fulfill its purpose unless the wick, which lies inside, is lit.
Otherwise, as promising as it may seem, that possibility can only remain untapped potential, hidden away in the dark.
It is only when the flame appears bringing forth the light, that its purpose is known, illuminating all those who draw near.
And like the candle, there is an eternal light within each of us, that once lit brings forth a unique and unmistakable radiance.
This happened to me the first time I walked into a meeting of people willing and wanting to be sober. They were vulnerable, open, and honest about their deepest, darkest struggles. I was terrified and intrigued at the same time.
They spoke about the power of surrender and the paradox that allowed them to rise up. I could see the glimmer of light behind their eyes, reaching out their hand to share their experience, strength, and hope.
As they reclaimed their lives and dreams, I could feel the possibility that I too might be able to do the same. For the first time in my life, I felt like I belonged somewhere. They wanted nothing from me except that I stay sober and find a…
