I Have a Consumption Problem
And I’m willing to bet you do too.
I’ve been gorging myself on products, problems and useless information, and I think it’s time for a refresh.
I have a buying problem. Well, not just a buying problem, but a buying and not finishing problem, and it’s starting to get out of hand. I’m a gal that likes things. What can I say?
But to be fair, I’m a product of my environment, I’m American. Ok, that’s not a great joke, but everything’s bigger and supposedly better over here, right?
We consume more. We have larger portions of everything, from food to color options for cashmere sweaters at Macy’s. We love MORE. We have arguably too many options. It makes us spoiled. But some may even argue that that’s what makes America great. Any kind of food concoction, we’ve got it. We’ve got trillions of skus across billions of brands to fit every unessecary American need.
I am spoiled, spoiled rotten really. I have more lipsticks than I care to count and what feels like an endless amount of frivolous buys that I don’t remember I have until my vanity drawers suddenly won’t close all the way.
And I’m not the only one.
It’s worth noting that people consume 400% more clothing today than they did 20 years ago. Only twenty years ago!
