Listening to Kevin Kelly talk about the power of getting lost made me realize something profound: in seeking to “find ourselves,” we might actually benefit from letting go of having a goal altogether.
There’s something magnetic about exploring life without a fixed destination, and in many ways, that’s the real magic.
For so many people, life becomes this series of set paths: the job, the 9-to-5, the career ladder. It’s like there’s this template that society hands us early on — go to school, get a job, settle down, rinse and repeat. But that “ordinary life” has never felt right to me. It’s too sure, too predictable. Life, in that structure, starts to feel boxed in, like it’s built around certainty. And certainty, to me, feels like it’s missing something crucial — wonder, adventure, and a little bit of chaos.
The whole idea of following the usual steps doesn’t resonate with me. From a young age, I noticed that what excited others about life didn’t excite me. I want playfulness, room to goof off, and moments to get lost on…
