In Between

I have always found peace in skirting the in-between,
I have always found peace in seeing more than others do.

You see,
I walked with you along your life journey,
I sidestepped the potholes and black ice, holding your hand and keeping you safe.

We were in between each other then.
Neither of us belonged to the other.

But we wanted to fill the space.
Because I found peace in the in-between before I met you.

And now I realize I want more.
I want more than what is in between.
