Learning to Edit

I used to only write,
filled countless journals,
back to back,
cover to cover,
from the age of 8.
They still sit there,
neatly lined notebooks,
side by side
like tiny tin soldiers,
filling an entire shelf
on my bookcase.

But now I’m learning to edit
cut, copy, and paste,
erase and uncover
new meanings,
reworking, redefining
my own thoughts.

Now I’m learning patience
for words
and memories,
learning to revisit
parts of me
I thought weren’t
worth revisiting.
