I’m a mom and have been for 25 years. As my children have transitioned to adulthood, the acronym for MOM has also changed. When my kids were small, MOM stood for:

Made
Of
Money

Now that my kids are older, MOM currently means:

Masking tape
On
Mouth

In other words, I strive to keep opinions about how my adult children choose to conduct their lives private. Giving unsolicited advice or gossiping about loved ones is a surefire way to shut down lines of communication.

I never thought I’d literally use the second acronym (Masking tape on mouth). However, here I am, plunging into the newest trend to improve sleep since Xanax.

In my Google search for “how to improve sleep quality,” I found minimal information on who to credit for inventing mouth taping for better sleep.

The closest I came to is Ukrainian physician Konstantin Buteyko, who created the Buteyko breathing method to ease symptoms of asthma, anxiety, and eustachian tube dysfunction. He developed specific breath retention exercises to help people breathe more calmly, regularly, and…
